چکیده
We have developed a sequential approach to accelerate immiscible multiphase flow modelling in heterogeneous porous media using discontinuous Galerkin methods and dynamic mesh coarsening. This involves domain decomposition different solution strategies the regions, criterion that can be fastly evaluated. use high-resolution grids low order regions near saturation discontinuity method along with low-resolution single-phase of domain. present fast technique estimate position front identify zones need gridding. demonstrate accuracy our through test cases from second SPE10 model by comparing results fine-scale simulations.

Incompressible immiscible multiphase flows in porous media: a variational approach
We describe the competitive motion of (N + 1) incompressible immiscible phases within a porous medium as the gradient flow of a singular energy in the space of non-negative measures with prescribed mass endowed with some tensorial Wasserstein distance. We show the convergence of the approximation obtained by a minimization scheme à la [R. Jordan, D. Kinderlehrer & F. Otto, SIAM J. Math. Anal, 2...

Interface pinning of immiscible gravity-exchange flows in porous media.
We study the gravity-exchange flow of two immiscible fluids in a porous medium and show that, in contrast with the miscible case, a portion of the initial interface remains pinned at all times. We elucidate, by means of micromodel experiments, the pore-level mechanism responsible for capillary pinning at the macroscale. We propose a sharp-interface gravity-current model that incorporates capill...

We present a new version of the sequential discontinuous Galerkin method introduced in [25] for two-phase immiscible incompressible flows in heterogeneous porous media with a discontinuous capillary field. Here, a new implementation of the extended interface condition, that does not use the threshold saturation value at the interface and permits treatment of different residual saturations in di...
